A dedicated rehabilitation therapy team for joint replacement patients

If you undergo joint replacement surgery at Aspire Orthopedic Institute, you’ll benefit from a dedicated team of skilled physical and occupational therapists who specialize in working exclusively with patients who undergo these procedures.

Why is there so much emphasis on exercise after joint replacement?

Simply put, patients recover better when they exercise to strengthen their muscles and enhance their flexibility. That’s why you’ll not only see a member of your physical therapy/occupational therapy team twice a day for group exercise sessions while you’re in the hospital, but we also have you begin certain exercises before surgery (which you’ll learn about in our special joint replacement preoperative class).

The initial goal is for you to regain normal range of motion in your new joint and resume daily activities of living such as walking, climbing stairs, getting in and out of bed, and up and down from a chair or toilet.

Once you’re home, ongoing regular exercise can help you resume the lifestyle activities you enjoy such as sports, gardening and travel.

The benefits of physical rehabilitation after joint replacement

After joint replacement surgery, rehabilitation can help you:

  • Regain your mobility by restoring normal movement in your new joint
  • Enhance your stability and balance by helping you gain strength in your new joint and the muscles around it
  • Reduce pain and swelling
  • Resume your normal activities
  • Reduce the risk of blood clots, especially right after surgery, by aiding circulation
